LEGO Technic 42154 2022 Ford GT’s colour scheme almost wasn’t feasible

The iconic dark blue and white colour scheme of LEGO Technic 42154 2022 Ford GT almost wasn’t feasible, but Ford insisted. 

Launching soon on March 1, 2023, 42154 2022 Ford GT is the largest depiction of the Ford GT in LEGO to date and it features the classic dark blue and white colour scheme that has become a recognisable part of the car. 

However, as designer Milan Reindl explains, this almost wasn’t the case, but Ford insisted despite some part limitations. 

“For us, it wasn’t that feasible, because we didn’t have many dark blue elements in that specific shape that we needed for the Ford,” shared Milan during a recent roundtable interview. “And we were always like juggling with different colour schemes, we went through several iterations that looked kind of possible from the limited colour palette of the Ford GT. 

“And then they were always like, coming back as a boomerang. Asking if we could make it in dark blue with white racing stripes. And like, yeah, but it’s too many colour changes, and we can’t do that for a few reasons, and then eventually, we agreed, Okay, let’s do it. 

“Let’s go full head on, and just colour change, I think like 30 elements into dark blue and just make the food look as good as possible.”
