LEGO Technic designers collaborate with NASA for 2024 sets
New LEGO Technic 2024 sets are all about space exploration including one developed closely with NASA, greatly influencing the final design.
Designing a LEGO Technic set already differs from most other models but in the case of 42178 Surface Space Loader LT78, 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover, and 42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81, a close collaboration with NASA and a new kind of space subtheme introduced some changes to the process and the final designs.
42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover is an especially interesting case. Unlike 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, the 2024 set is based on concepts and its design process required constant discussions with the engineers to determine how this model could physically exist, while its source material does not.
