LEGO Technic’s rumoured Red Bull car has enough pieces to do something truly cool

The rumoured LEGO Technic 42206 Red Bull F1 Car has the chance to use its higher piece count to great effect when it comes to the livery.

According to the latest LEGO Technic rumours for March 2025, as reported by  Brick Clicker (via BrickTastic), 42206 Red Bull F1 Car is set to be priced the same as 42207 Ferrari F1 Car at $239.99 but boasts almost 300 more pieces. Considering they’re expected to be the same price, it seems like the builds will be to the same scale and rough size, leaving us to wonder where those extra 300 pieces will go.

One theory we’re speculating on is that the extra pieces are going to be used to recreate the Red Bull livery using bricks, rather than purely stickers. While some Formula 1 teams have largely one-colour liveries, like Ferrari’s iconic red, Red Bull’s striking bull leaps from the top of its cars for the 2024 livery. A straightforward but likely unpopular way to depict that would to be with a dark blue element with a printed sticker for the red and gold bull.

However, the disparity in piece counts is leading us to wonder whether the protruding part of the body that supports the camera mount and engine intake could be brick-built out of red and yellow, rather than stickered. This would need to be achieved by layering various different-sized bricks in red and yellow, rather than one larger element, perhaps accounting for the piece count difference between 42206 Red Bull F1 Car and 42207 Ferrari F1 Car.

That would surely be a popular decision among LEGO builders, if for no other reason than that stickers can be tricky. In our review of  42171 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance, we pointed out that the stickers made an already tricky build that much harder.

It seems unlikely to hope for no stickers in the rumoured LEGO Technic builds, seeing as they’re sure to feature the logos and branding that all Formula 1 cars are emblazoned with. However, it’s hard to see where else the extra 300 pieces would go, considering there aren’t huge differences in the shape and size of Formula 1 cars nowadays, with the vast majority of differences between vehicles taking place under the hood rather than in the silhouette.

Exactly how the LEGO Technic designers could render these two iconic Formula 1 cars is of course still unknown. We’ll need to wait for official confirmation from the LEGO Group before we know whether the duo of racing cars are on the way but, for now, check out the rumoured LEGO Technic sets for 2025 below.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
