LEGO TRON is back after seven years in a fittingly digital form

After a brief appearance in LEGO Ideas over seven years ago, LEGO TRON is back, courtesy of Fortnite in a digital-only collaboration.

Shortly following the surprise debut of LEGO K-Pop Demon Hunters last week, which we can only hope will result in sets eventually, a more familiar property for the LEGO Group has been revealed for Fortnite and LEGO Fortnite ahead of its new film later this week.

TRON: Ares’ release later this week has inspired a LEGO Style for the outfit based on the titular character, sent out early to content creators ahead of a public release tomorrow. This isn’t the first time that TRON has appeared in Fortnite or LEGO Fortnite, following a collection of TRON-inspired skins in 2021, which received LEGO Styles two years ago. Those outfits were released long after the TRON Legacy movie in 2010, on which they are based.

The new minifigure in-game differs in how close it is being released to the TRON: Ares movie, confirming that the LEGO Group is still well aware of the franchise. The only physical LEGO TRON product was released in 2017 in the form of LEGO Ideas 21314 TRON: Legacy, featuring three minifigures and a pair of Light Cycles. 21314 TRON: Legacy was released seven years after the titular film, similar to the original Fortnite outfits.

As with many other LEGO Fortnite minifigures, Ares remains digital-only for now with no clear sign of TRON returning to the physical LEGO portfolio. In the context of TRON, it’s at least thematically-appropriate. The initial LEGO Ideas set goes for an average of £69.43 on BrickLink, for those eager to get a taste of LEGO TRON physically.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
