LEGO Tropical Aquarium designer reveals how to customise the set
The LEGO Icons designer behind the upcoming 10366 Tropical Aquarium has taken on the challenge of how to customise his own creation.
Fans of all things fishy will be able to check out a new LEGO Icons build next month, when 10366 Tropical Aquarium launches online and in stores. The 4,154-piece model includes a selection of colourful marine life, as well as plants, a fish tank frame and even its own dedicated GWP.
The good news for those who do decide to pick up 10366 Tropical Aquarium is that the set is just ripe for customisation. In fact, the LEGO Icons designer who created the build has taken on the challenge of doing just that himself, as revealed on LEGO.com.
“There wasn’t a lot of thought behind the modified coral – and that was the point,” said Sven Franic. “I wanted to show that you can pick almost any interesting shape from your collection and use it to create patterns.”
The LEGO Icons designer used dark orange pumpkin elements to make one of three eye-catching alternate plants to place in 10366 Tropical Aquarium, noting, “It’s a fun entry point for anyone looking to customise their set.”
Inspiration for LEGO models can come from the most unlikeliest of sources though, such as one particular red piece used to add yet another new plant to 10366 Tropical Aquarium, “Minifigure utensil whips, originally from Indiana Jones sets,” Sven revealed, “I personally find minifigure utensils, food items and headwear make the best shapes.
“When we first started concepting LEGO Botanicals, we even used car hoods to create rose patterns,” Sven explained. “With coral and underwater life, you can let your imagination run wild – there’s still so much unknown life in the sea.”
Budding LEGO designers will be able to take a deep dive into customising 10366 Tropical Aquarium for themselves when the model is released, with three simple ways to personalise the upcoming underwater build available on the official site right here.
10366 Tropical Aquarium will launch on November 13 for Insiders members, complete with 5009823 Fish Tank Filter & Fish Food GWP (while stocks last), followed by wider availability for everyone else from November 16. The LEGO Icons set is priced at £399.99 / $479.99 / €449.99.
