LEGO Wicked makes Disney 100th function more relevant
LEGO Wicked’s next build borrows a concept from a retired Disney anniversary set, bringing back a feature that fits better in the current portfolio.
The upcoming 75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends marks the debut of LEGO Wicked minifigures after a year of just mini-dolls for the musical’s characters. That brings the theme into a small club of LEGO themes alongside Disney, but this particular set has another interesting connection to LEGO Disney.

The new LEGO Wicked set undoubtedly fits into the recent collection of bookshelf insert sets, including 10351 Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook, 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook and 76450 Book Nook: Hogwarts Express.
As bookends, the models in 75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends will further complete your LEGO bookshelf, and you can even place one of the book nooks directly between the builds. Its concept is much closer to a retired model, which came long before the new bookshelf range, though.

75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends‘ inclusion of minifigures is nothing new for the 2025 bookshelf insert sets, but the fact that the minifigures can be neatly stored away in the objects featured in the model is unlike any of the other sets currently on shelves, but it’s not a new feature in any capacity.
The retired LEGO Disney 43227 Villain Icons – designed for the 100th anniversary of Disney – also depicts a bookshelf insert with a range of exclusive minifigures that can be stored away inside the build.

The places to store the minifigures in 75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends aren’t quite as cohesive as those of 43227 Villain Icons, though. The Wicked build has the minifigures stored away in the books, but some of the books don’t quite match the characters. This includes Fiyero in the Grimmerie, and when compared to the retired Disney model, the spots to store the minifigures work much better thematically in 43227 Villain Icons.
43227 Villain Icons has each minifigure stored away in the object that matches the story they are from. There are only four in the Disney set, though, whereas the Wicked build has six. Considering this, it’s not surprising to see that the new LEGO Wicked model has to find room for minifigures wherever it can, even if it means the spots don’t work quite as well for some minifigures as they do for others.
It’s exciting to see that this concept has been brought back after 43227 Villain Icons was retired in 2024, and now the idea of such a recreation with homes for exclusive minifigures has a clear spot in the LEGO portfolio alongside the other bookshelf inserts, whereas 43227 Villain Icons was much more of an oddity in the 2023 set range.
75691 Glinda & Elphaba Bookends launches on September 1 for £109.99 / $129.99 / €119.99, and you can pre-order the new set as well as those exclusive minifigures right now.
