LEGO Winter Village 2023 set rumoured to almost exactly match last year’s entry

This year’s LEGO Winter Village set is rumoured to come in at the same price and almost exactly the same piece count as last year’s 10308 Holiday Main Street.

There are no prizes for predicting that a new addition to the Winter Village Collection will arrive on shelves in 2023, given the LEGO Icons (formerly Creator Expert) subtheme has enjoyed a new entry every year since 2009. But details beyond that are normally anyone’s guess, as the sets have varied widely in size, scope, theme and format over the years.

It sounds like the LEGO Group won’t be pushing the envelope too widely in 2023, however, as Instagram user lego_insider_news claims this year’s Winter Village set will include 1,517 pieces and retail for $99.99 in the US. By contrast, last year’s 10308 Holiday Main Street includes 1,514 pieces and retails for… $99.99 in the US. Those three extra bricks are doing a lot of heavy lifting to differentiate these two sets.

But this isn’t to say that we should be expecting another tram and pair of shop façades: the same number of pieces could really build into literally anything else, and the LEGO Group typically changes tack for consecutive festive sets. (Not always, though – 10267 Gingerbread House and 10275 Elf Club House arrived one after the other, both offering fantasy-themed houses.)

The price tag of $99.99 has been a constant for the Winter Village Collection since 2018’s 10263 Winter Village Fire Station, meanwhile, so it’s not exactly surprising to hear that 2023’s model will occupy the same price point. Still, it is just a rumour at this point, so don’t put too much stock in it: the LEGO Group could yet surprise us with something entirely different for this year’s holiday set.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
