LEGO x Fortnite crossover rumoured for upcoming Big Bang event

An upcoming Fortnite update is rumoured to include an official LEGO crossover, with The Big Bang event due to kick off next month.

We’ve been drip fed rumours of some sort of LEGO x Fortnite collaboration for over two years now, but with few signs as to what exactly we might expect from such a partnership. Last year the LEGO Group’s parent company KIRKBI invested $1bn in Epic Games, the developer and publisher behind Fortnite, and most recently we had confirmation of a mysterious Loot Llama set that popped up on the official Product Confirmation page.

Then, just yesterday, the LEGO Group itself dropped yet another tease, with an image of the same brick-built llama posted on the company’s social media channels and the model appearing on the current Fortnite lobby screen.

Now comes news that Epic Games has confirmed The Big Bang event will be kicking off in Fortnite from December 2 at 7pm GMT, with a massive music star also scheduled to be making a surprise appearance. An official Twitter post states The Big Bang will be an, ‘Unforgettable event. Evolving all things as you know them. Memorable reveal toward the end.’

Epic Games announced that rap star Eminem will be arriving in Fortnite on that date as part of what’s said to be a 1.5 GB update to the game, suggesting he may potentially be taking part in a live concert. In addition, Eurogamer states that LEGO content is also rumoured to finally be on the way within the weeks to come, possibly adding survival and creative modes to Fortnite that are similar to those featured in Minecraft.

The Big Bang event will close out the current version of Fortnite OG, ahead of the release of Chapter 5: Season 1. An all-new promotional image for the update includes the same recently-teased LEGO llama model, as well as musical instruments rumoured to hint at a collaboration with Rock Band developer Harmonix and a racing trophy and wheel said to suggest a partnership with Rocket League maker Psyonix.

Additional rumours reported via Polygon reveal that the highly-anticipated LEGO x Fortnite content might well include playable minifigures and focus on building, even though the latter feature already exists within the game. If this latest report is to be believed, LEGO-specific elements may be arriving in Fortnite from December 7, although there’s been no official confirmation from either company to suggest that’s the case.

For now though, do treat all such LEGO x Fortnite rumours with a large pinch of salt until we hear otherwise.
