The road to LEGO Zam Wesell: from cut Star Wars sets to concept minifigures

An updated version of 7133 Bounty Hunter Pursuit is rumoured to be on the way in 2026, marking the end of a long road back to Zam Wesell for LEGO Star Wars.

Attack of the Clones’ changeling bounty hunter has made one – and only one – appearance in LEGO Star Wars, all the way back in 2002. That was a time before flesh-toned characters, when sand purple was still in the LEGO colour palette, and all together that makes for one very dated minifigure today. But a renewed and refreshed LEGO Zam Wesell minifigure could well be on the cards for 2026… if recent rumours prove true.

Nestled among a list of upcoming LEGO Star Wars 2026 sets reported by BrickTap this week is a model titled ‘EPII Bounty Hunter Pursuit’, and it feels like a safe bet that it’s referencing the set of the same name from 2002. The only other sequence that would fit the bill is Obi-Wan’s pursuit of Jango Fett through the asteroid field, and we already have recent playsets of both ships involved… unless it’s a microscale diorama, but then the Diorama Collection seems to be done and dusted for now.

In any case, let’s roll with the assumption that the LEGO Star Wars team is finally revisiting Anakin and Obi-Wan’s pursuit of Zam Wesell through Coruscant in the opening scenes of Attack of the Clones. And in that scenario, this is a set that’s been a very long time coming: almost every early LEGO Star Wars set has been remade or revisited in some fashion, and 7133 Bounty Hunter Pursuit is a notable exception.

There are a couple of good reasons this set has been so high on LEGO Star Wars fans’ wishlists in recent years. One is obviously the chance to get an updated Zam Wesell minifigure, alongside revamped versions of Anakin and Obi-Wan in their Episode II outfits. But perhaps more importantly, the bright colours of both speeders involved in the chase are sweet relief from the overwhelmingly grey palette Star Wars typically plays around in.

It’s a set (and minifigure selection) that’s been on the LEGO Group’s mind for a while, too. Back in 2019, LEGO Star Wars Design Manager Michael Lee Stockwell revealed that he sketched out a new version of Zam Wesell’s speeder that he thought was ‘a great model’, but it ultimately ‘never made the cut’ for the LEGO Star Wars line-up.

Fast forward to 2024, and LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity – authored by former Brick Fanatics editor Graham Hancock – revealed that the graphic design team also have a concept locked and loaded for an updated Zam Wesell minifigure. The book includes development art of the minifigure from all angles, showcasing a new double-sided head, printed torso, helmet and even a fabric skirt.

The LEGO Star Wars team is now finally said to be making good on those development efforts in 2026, with a set that’s rumoured to come in at around $60 in the US. We don’t have a piece count, release date or even a set number to go on yet, but you can see how that budget would unlock the door to two speeders in a single box, and hopefully with Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Zam Wesell minifigures at a minimum. (A new Padmé Amidala would be the icing on the cake.)

There are no guarantees that a new Zam Wesell 2026 minifigure would look exactly like the version in The Force of Creativity, of course – those concept sketches are likely a few years old at this point, and LEGO Star Wars design language has moved on since (particularly from fabric skirts and kamas). And until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group, any word of an updated 7133 Bounty Hunter Pursuit should of course we taken with a grain of salt…

For now, check out the full rumoured LEGO Star Wars 2026 slate in the table below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
