LEGOLAND Shanghai 2025 opening window announced

The new opening window for LEGOLAND Shanghai has been announced alongside more details of the park’s offerings including a Monkie Kid land.

Merlin Entertainments has announced that LEGOLAND Shanghai will be opening in the summer of 2025 as construction on the park reaches a pivotal point with the installation of the most ambitious LEGO roller coaster yet.

The 11th LEGOLAND theme park will be home to the usual offerings including The Dragon roller coaster alongside brand-new offerings featuring The Big LEGO Coaster at the heart of the park. A new video shared to the press shows off everything from a massive NINJAGO area to the unique centre of the theme park.

That’s not to mention the park’s most exciting debut – the first-ever Monkie Kid land based on the theme which has recently had two 2025 sets revealed. The main attraction for the land will seemingly be inspired by 80024 The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain named Monkie Kid Flower Fruit Mountain Adventure.

Further concept art for LEGOLAND Shanghai showing off The Big LEGO Coaster and the hotel has been shown off on X by current Walt Disney Imagineer Andy Martin from their time working on the project as Creative Lead for LEGOLAND parks. While nothing has been confirmed, either the Monkie Kid ride or the larger red roller coaster would work well as the 2025 LEGOLAND-exclusive set, which have covered exclusive areas previously.

“We’re striving to build the ultimate LEGO® theme park and hotel destination where LEGO possibilities come to life on an epic scale, sparking a lifetime of play, creativity, and imagination at its opening in 2025,” shared John Ussher, senior divisional director of LEGOLAND Developments.

Based on concept art and this latest round of announcements, LEGOLAND Shanghai seems to be shaping up as the most ambitious LEGOLAND to date, already massively differing from most other LEGOLAND parks worldwide.

Originally, LEGOLAND Shanghai was set to open at the end of this year but that has been delayed and while we don’t know the exact opening date just yet, the team plans to start testing rides at the end of 2024 as construction continues at a noteworthy pace.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
