LEGOLAND Windsor breaks ground on carbon-neutral Woodland Village
LEGOLAND Windsor has started construction on its first carbon-neutral accommodation, named Woodland Village.
With a planned reopening on Friday March 17, LEGOLAND Windsor will soon welcome back guests for its 2023. Looking to the future, work has started on the UK’s first Woodland-themed holiday village, which will be operationally carbon neutral. Former Prime Minister and MP for Maidenhead Theresa May joined LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and Merlin Entertainments to celebrate construction work starting for the £35 million development.
The new accommodation will open to the public in the spring of 2024, offering 150 accommodation lodges in its Phase One development. Guests will be able to stay in a woodland-themed area surrounded by nature on the 10-acre site. Not only can you stay in the lodges, but there will also be various nature trails lined with brick-built animals, as well as entertainment areas, an on-site restaurants, brick-building activities, and story time area for young visitors.
“Breaking ground on LEGOLAND Woodland Village is a significant milestone in the history of one of the UK’s much-loved family entertainment theme parks,” said Helen Bull, Divisional Director for LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. “Our vision to create the first LEGO themed Woodland village is an innovative way of demonstrating how LEGOLAND Windsor Resort will continue to meet the growing needs of our guests and will be a major economic boost for the local area providing high quality and sustainable tourism for the future.”
The Woodland Village’s operational energy will be fossil fuel free once complete, making it the first operationally carbon-neutral accommodation to be built by LEGOLAND owner Merlin Entertainments. Merlin Entertainments and LEGOLAND Windsor are working with The Carbon Trust to develop a robust carbon reduction plan, which will adopt low-carbon technologies, energy efficiency, and high-quality offsets.
