Lost Star Wars X-wing Starfighter prop sells for $3 million

A once-missing Star Wars X-wing Starfighter prop that was used in A New Hope has been found and sold for over $3 million in a recent auction.

Those somehow doubting the popularity of Star Wars will be interested to know that a missing miniature Starfighter prop has recently sold at auction for $3.135 million in Dallas.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is one of multiple props that were left unaccounted for when the visual effects company that worked on A New Hope, Industrial Light & Magic, moved north to the San Francisco Bay Area from California’s San Fernando Valley in 1978. This particular X-wing Starfighter prop was used during the filming of A New Hope.

The high-profile nature of this item and its story appears to have attracted a lot of attention from prospective buyers, now belonging to whoever could have afforded the final price of $3.135 million.

While it’s not quite the same, you can add a miniature X-wing Starfighter to your home for a much more affordable £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 thanks to 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama. For a closer look at the diorama, click here to read our in-depth review.

It’s not the first time that a Star Wars prop has fetched a high price at auction, though the life-sized C-3PO head may been bigger but sold for significantly less.
