Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four movie will embrace comic origins of the team

The upcoming Marvel Studios Fantastic Four film will embrace the comics more than previous iterations, it has been revealed.

In a recent interview, producer Stephen Broussard explained the learnings of Marvel Studios over the past couple of decades and how that will shape the Fantastic Four film due in 2025.

I wouldn’t presume to know everything about that film; I’m not necessarily working on it,” said Broussard to Screen Rant. “But one of the founding principles of Marvel, going back to Iron Man and the casting of Tony that I think has resonated through today, is to embrace the source material and these comics that have been around forever. They’re older than me, and I’m guessing they’re older than you too. They’ve been around for a while for a reason, so we lean into that.”

The interview goes on to reference some of the older Fantastic Four movies and their approach to the team.

“I think the world has changed a little bit, people understand that now. But in 2005, maybe there was a reticence to fully embrace what it was. In everything; in the embodiment of Galactus and things like that. Whatever form the story takes, whatever characters do or do not appear, that founding principle will be embraced and will welcome them into the MCU.”

While nothing too specific is said, this suggests that the Fantastic Four MCU film is open to embracing the comic book roots of the characters, not just the main team, more than the 2005 and 2017 iterations.

With a release of February 14, 2025, it may be a while before we learn more about the story details and featured characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Fantastic Four film. Matt Shakman of WandaVision has previously been reported to be directing the film.

Next up in the MCU is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following it on May 5, 2023.
