Mysterious LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set should start a series

A mysterious LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set revealed for later this year has drawn an excited crowd online, signalling the hopeful start of a series.

Reactions to this unique LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set following its reveal have been largely positive, with many in the community wanting to know exactly how they can pick it up and comparing the 181-piece build to other brick-built Badniks in the minifigure-scale sets, including other Crabmeat figures.

A release date for 40781 Badnik: Crabmeat has not been confirmed at the time of writing and neither has the method of acquiring the model, but it will certainly be available at some point this year and it seems likely to be popular when it does.

Following this initial reveal, some online are already calling for more buildable LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Badniks.

“Buildable figures work so well for Badniks, as it turns out. While Crabmeat is cool, Slizer would be something I wouldn’t be able to resist, at all.” writes LibraryBestMission on Reddit.

Fortunately for them, the fact that the set is named 40781 Badnik: Crabmeat, as opposed to 40781 Crabmeat, leaves the door open for more Badnik sets in the future, similarly posed on a stylish black base with a slice of a zone. That black base positions it as an adult-targeted model similar to 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog and 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone too.

We’ll update you when we know more about the release date and how to acquire 40781 Badnik: Crabmeat and for now, here’s what’s rumoured for LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog in 2025.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
