Netflix Marvel TV shows now officially listed in Disney+ MCU timeline

Disney+ is now promoting all five existing Netflix Marvel shows on the streaming platform, incorporating each series into the official MCU timeline.

Marvel fans are finally able to check out Echo on Disney+ from today, with all five episodes of the live-action, street-level show having been released in one bingeable chunk. The series focuses on Maya Lopez as she’s pursed by Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin and the villain’s formidable criminal empire, complete with cameo appearance by Matt Murdock’s Daredevil.

The character has already appeared in 71039 Marvel Series 2 as part of a line-up of 12 collectible minifigures, complete with prosthetic leg element. It’s also possible Echo may be joined by other minifigures based on characters from Disney+ Marvel shows at some point in the future, especially considering five previous Netflix series have now been incorporated into the official MCU canon.

A quick look on the Marvel page of Disney+ reveals that all episodes of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Defenders on the streaming service have been worked into the official MCU timeline.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios discussed how he believes that the Netflix shows are now part of the ‘sacred timeline’.

“I can say that up until this point, we’ve been a little bit cagey about what’s Sacred Timeline, what’s not Sacred Timeline,” said Winderbaum. “That was born of, frankly, a period at the studio where we were like, “We have to stick the landing with the vendors.” It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff. We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was a lot to balance anyway.”

“But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline.”

Whether that same rationale also applies to Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Defenders is not yet known. With Daredevil: Born Again now in production, the focus may remain on Matt Murdock’s character for the time being, which could still potentially bode well for a new minifigure version of the character and possibly his Defenders teammates, although that’s just speculation on our part at this stage.

The full season of Echo is available to watch on Disney+ right now for all subscribers, with a total of five episodes up for grabs.
