New deal on LEGO Technic 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car races in at John Lewis
If McLaren’s new MCL60 has you itching for a LEGO F1 fix, John Lewis’s latest LEGO Technic deals include a podium-worthy discount on 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car.
The racing giant unveiled its newest Formula 1 car on Monday, which expert Mark Hughes has called an ‘evolution’ (rather than revolution) of McLaren’s 2022 car. The LEGO Technic set actually combines elements of both the 2021 and 2022 cars, but to the casual eye still serves as a fine representation of McLaren’s Formula 1 presence – and is available for just £135.99 at John Lewis right now.

That’s a 20% saving on the retail price of the 1,432-piece set, which is decked out in those familiar (but vivid) McLaren colours of bright orange and blue. Like the best LEGO Technic cars, 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car is also packed with functions, including a V6 engine with moving pistons, steering, suspension and a differential to allow what the LEGO Group calls ‘precision cornering’.
Achieved through close collaboration between design teams from LEGO Technic and McLaren, the car actually arrived on shelves before the 2022 F1 season had even kicked into gear – a feat that also helped it to stand apart from previous LEGO F1 cars. But that doesn’t mean it’s not still worth your time now that the season is over, because it still looks awesome – and it’s pretty hefty, too.
Measuring 65cm long and 27cm wide, 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car will draw the eye not just for its careful recreation of McLaren’s bold colour scheme. You can add it to your collection (while also making a tidy saving) by heading over to John Lewis while stocks last.

Author Profile
- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
