Every new LEGO Star Wars minifigure arriving for May the 4th 2023

Seven new LEGO Star Wars sets are launching for May the 4th 2023, with 10 brand new minifigures between them. Here’s every tiny plastic person you’re going to need for a full collection…

This year’s Star Wars Day celebrations kick off on May 1, when a varied mix of LEGO Star Wars sets arrive on shelves. Available alongside them will be a trio of gifts-with-purchase, including 40591 Death Star II, 5007840 Return of the Jedi 40th Collectible and 30654 X-wing Starfighter. In short: it’s the best time of the year to journey to a galaxy far, far away.

But what if you’re really only interested in the minifigures? After all, most of the ground has been covered across nearly 25 years of LEGO Star Wars sets, so maybe you don’t need a third UCS X-wing. Maybe you’re perfectly happy with your previous Death Star throne room duel (there have been enough), and all you need are the latest and most up-to-date LEGO characters.

Well, the good news is that there are plenty of new minifigures coming our way across those sets on May 1, so you’ve got all the excuse you need to head to LEGO.com and place an order. Those gifts-with-purchase might not include any minifigures of their own, but nobody’s going to argue with free stuff – and with double VIP points on all LEGO Star Wars sets from May 1 to 7, it’s a great time to shop.

Here’s a full rundown of every new LEGO Star Wars minifigure launching May 1.

Luke Skywalker

Luke’s back with a brand new rap wig, available exclusively in 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama. It’s somehow the first-ever update to his Return of the Jedi ‘do, replacing the classic male LEGO hairpiece he’s been rocking since the dawn of the LEGO Star Wars theme in 1999. And it’s a welcome change, reflecting the late-‘70s/early-‘80s mop Luke was running around with at the time. Decent hairdressers are few and far between in Star Wars.

Emperor Palpatine

The other brand new minifigure in 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama is the big bad himself, who has a unique face print free of pupils. It’s a cosmetic choice for sure, and one we’re not sure we’re fully on board with – Palps definitely had pupils in Return of the Jedi – but it’s worth grabbing just for that snarling grin as he electrocutes Luke.

Luke Skywalker (again)

The other new addition to the LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection includes another new Luke Skywalker minifigure, this time decked out in his Endor gear. It’s tough to get too excited about this particular update – which you’ll find in 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama – mostly because the LEGO Group seemingly thinks his camo poncho should cover his entire body. Dual-moulded legs would have gone a long way to saving this minifigure, but as is it’s one for completionists only.

Princess Leia

Leia’s camo minifigure in 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama doesn’t suffer to quite the same extent as Luke, but would again have benefited from dual-moulded legs. Cloth ponchos – like Leia’s in 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium – still feel like a better solution eight years later, but that might have interrupted the aesthetics of the characters on their speeder bikes here.

Luke Skywalker (again…)

Your Luke Skywalker minifigure collection is going to get a real shot in the arm in May, with a total of three brand new and updated variants of the original trilogy’s main character arriving on shelves. The best and most detailed of those is included exclusively in 75355 X-wing Starfighter, which adds arm printing and dual-moulded legs to Luke’s pilot uniform.

Vane

One of four new minifigures inspired by The Mandalorian Season 3, Vane is included in 75346 Pirate Snub Fighter – and given he’s already confirmed to pop up again in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, this could definitely be a minifigure worth grabbing at the first time of asking. The space pirate is rocking new prints from head to toe, including a detailed Nikto face design.

Snub Fighter Pilot

75346 Pirate Snub Fighter might only include two minifigures, but at least they’re both brand new. Alongside Vane is a generic Snub Fighter Pilot, who shares the same headpiece as his Nikto counterpart, but comes dressed in a unique yellow pilot’s uniform and pearl gold helmet. Of all the minifigures on this list, it’s one of the best for amassing in quantities to bulk out your LEGO Star Wars universe.

Mandalorian Fleet Commander

While this Mandalorian isn’t named, he is based on a specific character seen in The Mandalorian Season 3. He’s getting a Black Series Hasbro figure, and even has his own Wookieepedia page! (As… ‘Unidentified Mandalorian Fleet Commander’.) He’s also probably the most interesting minifigure in 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor, and will likely remain exclusive to that set.

R2-E6

The other new character in 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor is R2-E6, a black astromech droid (that’s how you know it’s Imperial, see). We’ve had black astromechs before, but this one’s still pretty cool. And, you know, mandatory for a complete LEGO Star Wars droid collection.

TIE Pilot

This is technically a new minifigure for pairing a different head with the same TIE Pilot minifigure from 75347 TIE Bomber, but it doesn’t include any unique parts, so… it’s really up to you whether it’s worth holding on to. You’ll get it with 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor all the same.

If you want to grab all these minifigures straight from the source on May 1, or just want to cherry-pick your favourites, here’s a quick summary of the sets to keep an eye on…

Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
