New licensed LEGO advent calendar rumoured to replace Marvel in 2025

Hot on the heels of rumours that LEGO Marvel won’t be getting an advent calendar in 2025, a new report suggests that another blocky licensed property will be filling the gap.

The LEGO Group is said to be shaking up its advent calendar portfolio again in 2025, leaving behind Marvel after four years, two Avengers calendars, one Guardians of the Galaxy calendar and one Spider-Man calendar. Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat now claims that the festive superhero set will be replaced by 21280 Minecraft Advent Calendar 2025, which is slated to hit shelves in September with 300 pieces for $44.99.

That matches the price tag of current licensed advent calendars, including those from Star Wars, Harry Potter and Disney, so we can probably expect a UK price of £29.99 and an EU price of €34.99. It’s not terribly surprising to see the LEGO Group pull focus to Minecraft given the video game’s silver-screen adaptation arrives in cinemas in 2025, boosting wider interest in the franchise.

The LEGO Minecraft theme has also been happily chugging along for more than a decade with no sign of letting up, and in 2024 received its first-ever 18+ set in 21265 The Crafting Table. The LEGO Group is clearly testing just how big the Minecraft audience really is at the moment – but whether we see future Minecraft calendars after 2025 is less certain.

Not that this first calendar is confirmed either, of course. It’s still just a rumour for now, so take it with the customary grain of salt (you know the drill by now).

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
