No LEGO in San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Exclusives Portal

The LEGO Group is apparently not taking part in the Exclusives Portal system at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con – but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any exclusive sets or minifigures altogether.

Back when SDCC was a live, physical event – the heady days of 2019 and earlier – the convention ran a lottery system for attendees to get their hands on exclusive merch. The same Exclusives Portal is returning for the 2022 event, giving fans a chance to enter draws for the chance to win autographs or buy exclusive goodies, which in previous years included LEGO sets and minifigures.

According to the SDCC Unofficial Blog, however, Comic Con International has started notifying attendees via email that ‘no more items will be added to the SDCC portal’. And that means we’re out of time for any exclusive LEGO merch to make the cut – but it doesn’t mean the LEGO Group is definitely skipping convention exclusives for SDCC 2022. It just means you won’t be able to get them through the lottery system.

Instead, if there are any exclusive sets or minifigures in the works, they’ll presumably just be made available through a separate system at – for example – the LEGO booth. That could be on a first-come-first-served basis, or the LEGO Group could run its own independent lottery system. We’ll hopefully find out either way relatively soon, as San Diego Comic-Con 2022 kicks off on July 21.

We do know that the LEGO Group will at least be participating in two panels during the event – one on LEGO World Builder, and one offering a glimpse at both LEGO MASTERS USA Season 3 and the finale of the latest season of NINJAGO.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
