One LEGO Star Wars sequel trilogy set is now unlikely

The future of the sequel trilogy in LEGO Star Wars seems to be plotting a different path than the other eras with one set now being unlikely.

The exclusive minifigure for the 2025 LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia has been confirmed to be a depiction of Emperor Palpatine as he appears in The Rise of Skywalker, potentially impacting the chances of a sequel trilogy scene getting a LEGO Star Wars set.

This version of Palpatine most prominently appears in the final duel on Exegol, which has yet to receive a LEGO Star Wars model, and it’s unlikely that the LEGO Group would label this minifigure as exclusive should there be plans to include him in a standard LEGO Star Wars set in the future. It would appear that this battle is not planned for the future of LEGO Star Wars beyond this minifigure.

Of the scenes in The Rise of Skywalker that have yet to be covered, the Exegol battle would be near the top of the list of priorities. With this and the fact that the only representation for the sequel trilogy in the past few years has been two sets and two standalone minifigures, the future of the sequel trilogy in LEGO Star Wars may be clear.

The immediate future of the sequel trilogy in LEGO Star Wars is likely to feature standalone minifigures when the opportunity knocks and smaller sets should there be room in the portfolio. The latter isn’t a yearly guarantee though with no such entry in 2022 and 2024. For now, models similar to Fourstud‘s custom Exegol battle set may not be on the table.

Compared to both the original and prequel trilogies over the past few years, the sequels have been less prominent in LEGO Star Wars and even the likes of Young Jedi Adventures have managed to match the number of dedicated sequel trilogy sets. Rumours of LEGO Star Wars sets in 2025 only feature one sequel trilogy set too.

While the LEGO Star Wars team are still evidently aware of the sequel trilogy, we can only hope that they don’t give up on the movies as we discuss further here. While we wait to see what the future holds, we can assume that there will be no Exegol build anytime soon thanks to the 2025 encyclopedia. At least one of the most important characters from the scene is getting a minifigure, and you can find out more about the book by clicking here.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
