One rare piece can greatly improve your LEGO Star Wars troopers

It turns out that one piece can improve the appearance of LEGO Star Wars Clone Troopers in a small though impactful way, but it’s a rare element.

Reddit user MustachedSquirrel has made an interesting discovery for LEGO Star Wars army builders, or at least those looking to make the perfect Clone Trooper minifigure. They’ve found that one element can add a layer of detail to minifigures the likes of which we’ve not seen before officially.

While they refer to this piece as a LEGO bow tie, it appears to be the collar piece used for Alfred in The LEGO Batman Movie sets. It only appears in black in 70917 The Ultimate Batmobile. Despite its rarity, you can pick up a couple for your Clone Troopers on BrickLink for an average of £3.69 at the time of writing, but there are some for as low as £0.06 (with minimum spends via some sellers).

Attaching the collar piece backwards on the Clone Troopers’ necks covers the space between the head and the torso without the need to use a plain black head. While that would likely be cheaper and easier, this method allows for the option to remove the helmet and still see the minifigure’s face.

It’s an interesting take on the issue of obscuring the flesh-coloured heads on LEGO Star Wars Clone Trooper minifigures but its value to you may depend on your budget and personal preference.

Still, it’s a good suggestion to improve the exclusive Captain Rex minifigure in 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, as MustachedSquirrel has done.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
