LEGO Pirates of Barracuda Bay minifigure returns for 10320 Eldorado Fortress

One of the pirate minifigures in 10320 Eldorado Fortress is the first recurring character for modern LEGO Pirates.

The latest from LEGO Icons is a remake of the classic 1989 LEGO Pirates set 6276 Eldorado Fortress. This set is in the same retro packaging as the other 80s set remakes from last year, 10497 Galaxy Explorer and 10315 Lion Knights’ Castle. With these three sets a trifecta of classic LEGO themes – Space, Castle, and Pirates – will all be on shelves at the same time.

The Eldorado Fortress remake wasn’t the first modern LEGO Pirates set, though. 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, an Ideas set from 2020, was another tribute to old-school LEGO Pirates at a similar size to the recently-revealed fortress. In a relatively rare move, the Ideas set’s instruction booklet details the names and characteristics of its minifigure crew.

Aside from Captain Redbeard, the most iconic LEGO Pirates character, the pirates in Barracuda Bay were all new characters. A pirate named ‘Quartermaster Riggings’ does bear a striking resemblance to a LEGO Pirates character named First Mate Rummy, but otherwise the surprisingly expansive back-catalogue of characters from 80s LEGO tie-in comics and merchandise were untouched in favour of new, one-off characters.

One-off… until now, of course. Lady Anchor, a dark-haired pirate from Barracuda Bay, has re-appeared in 10320 Eldorado Fortress in place of her captain, Redbeard. This makes Lady Anchor the first of the new named LEGO Pirates to officially become a recurring character. It’s yet to be seen what the instructions for the Eldorado Fortress remake look like yet, but it would be a nice bonus to get an official name for the other pirate included in the set, too.

Could this character re-use go beyond a simple reference to a previous set? Could it maybe suggest more from LEGO Pirates in the 21st century? We’ll just have to wait and see!
