Players are enjoying LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s combat

Combat in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker is notably different from previous LEGO games, and players are already figuring out masterful combos.

As noted in our comprehensive review, combat is one of the biggest changes in the standard formula in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and since it was discovered that certain characters are invincible in the new title, players have been keen to explore the depths of this combat system.

Twitter user RK noted this by describing the moves that Qui-Gon Jinn is able to perform, comparing the combos that can be achieved to the likes of Devil May Cry, a video game where combat is one of the most important aspects of the title.

Toast Hatter was motivated by the gameplay to repeatedly face off against a young Anakin Skywalker, trying out various moves to figure out what combos are possible. We’re not sure what Anakin did to Han Solo, but the scoundrel seems annoyed with the youngling.

Rounding out the Twitter reactions just after launch with over 29,000 likes was Starshade and their showcase of a General Grievous combo, detailing that their discovery results in the other minifigure facing away from the player, leading to an unblockable attack with the help of some blaster fire.

Combat is cool and all but the exact thing I feared would happen, when they said characters are divided into classes and the classes can be upgraded, happened. I feared that characters would lose unique abilities if they were generalized to classes. This is exactly what happened with the force lightning abilities that Dooku and Palpatine had in previous games. You can barely use it through a combo but you can’t shoot a stream of lightning like in previous Lego Star Wars games. Also you cannot use Jango and Boba Fett’s flamethrowers at will. They are only accessible through combos. Additionally unique abilities from certain characters got generalized to the whole class. For example, a unique ability of Darth Vader is that he can force choke enemies. But now anyone in the dark side class can force choke through ability upgrades. This is my only disappointment with the combat in this game.
