Ranking every LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express model 

There are a lot of LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express builds from the past two decades, so we’re ranking every iteration of the train to date. 

Including polybags and advent calendar builds, the Hogwarts Express has nearly as many models as the X-34 Landspeeder from Star Wars. Another entry is coming as part of the LEGO Harry Potter summer 2023 sets – 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station, as revealed by Smyths Toys. 

While we wait for more details for 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station, here’s how we’ve ranked every LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express creation. 

9 – 40028 Mini Hogwarts Express 

Included in the smallest set on this list, 40028 Mini Hogwarts Express is the least impressive recreation of the train, mostly relying on its colour scheme. 

8 – 75964 Harry Potter Advent Calendar’s build 

Though it includes a carriage as well as the main engine, the missing funnel puts 75964 Harry Potter Advent Calendar’s build low on our rankings. 

7 – 76404 Harry Potter Advent Calendar’s build 

Despite the price increase over the 2019 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, the 2022 advent calendar Hogwarts Express is smaller but filled with more detail.

6 – 71247 Harry Potter Team Pack’s build 

LEGO Dimensions’ Hogwarts Express build is bigger than the polybag and advent calendar builds with plenty of detail to recognise this particular train.  

5 – 2001 to 2004 Hogwarts Express’ 

The Hogwarts Express build used between 2001 and 2004 appears to be mostly identical, so we’ve grouped the sets together. While their sizes are able to accommodate minifigures, they just aren’t as impressive as later entries. 

4 – 75955 Hogwarts Express 

The cylindrical front of 75955 Hogwarts Express doesn’t look quite right to our eyes, but it’s no doubt better than any previous LEGO Hogwarts Express iteration. 

3 – 4841 Hogwarts Express 

It might be our sense of nostalgia, but there’s something about 4841 Hogwarts Express that we prefer over 75955 Hogwarts Express. Its appearance overall seems less squashed than 75955 Hogwarts Express. 

2 – 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station 

Focusing on just the train, 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station is one of the most accurate LEGO Hogwarts Express models of all time, especially at a scale more suitable for minifigures. 

1 – 76405 Hogwarts Express – Collectors’ Edition 

While it has an advantage thanks to its staggering price of £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99, 76405 Hogwarts Express – Collectors’ Edition is fittingly at the top of our rankings thanks to its unprecedented level of detail and accuracy – inside and out.
