Rumoured LEGO Simpsons return could fix a long-standing issue

Only one LEGO Simpsons set is rumoured but that hasn’t stopped fans from hoping that a long-standing issue could be fixed.

We’re still far away from having a confirmed return of just one LEGO Simpsons set, with rumoured reports of 10352 Krusty Burger surfacing in the last few days, let alone the return of an entire theme. Nonetheless, it hasn’t taken long for fans to start hoping that this could mean a resolution for a long-running problem with some of the original sets.

71006 The Simpsons House, for example, includes the use of reddish brown bricks, now nicknamed brittle brown. The moniker should give away what issue fans are having: the elements get very brittle over time, even breaking when you try and move or rebuild using them.

It’s an issue that’s been acknowledged by the LEGO Group in a statement back in 2018, stating that the LEGO colours 154 (New Dark Red), 192 (Reddish Brown) and 308 (Dark Brown) fix the issue for this particular shade. However, for older sets that still feature the old reddish brown pieces, it’s an ongoing issue.

Considering some copies of 71006 The Simpsons House will be ten years old by now, that’s prime brick-breaking territory. Some LEGO builders have shared their problems with fragile bricks on reddit, with one person writing: “I made a grave mistake taking apart the roof when I was dismantling the house to make room on my shelf. I stopped taking it apart after several broken elements.”

Now, with the hope of 10352 Krusty Burger circulating in the LEGO rumour mill, LEGO The Simpsons fans are hoping that this will be the start of a full remake for those old – and now often brittle – sets like 71006 The Simpsons House, where the entirety of the roof could be subject to breaking if you try and rebuild.

If one Simpsons location is coming to LEGO in 2025, perhaps more could follow – including a remake of 71006 The Simpsons House, with no brittle brown in sight.

“Would love [remakes of old sets] since the originals suffered from brittle brown problem,” wrote Grouchy-Donkey-8609 on reddit. “I have a sealed Kwik-E -Mart under my bed so I would love a rerelease I wouldn’t feel guilty opening.”

Even if 10352 Krusty Burger does come out – which is far from confirmed – but is a solo set, anyone who’s struggling with their copy of 71006 The Simpsons House becoming brittle can fix the issue nonetheless. The LEGO Group will replace any broken pieces, even ten years on from the set’s original release.

“If you, at any time, have a LEGO element which doesn’t live up to the standard you’d expect from us – then please don’t hesitate to contact Customer Service and we will send you replacement parts,” the company stated in its original statement, something that has been held up according to those discussing the issue on reddit.

The LEGO Group’s process for replacing incorrect or broken parts is pretty straightforward and can be accessed here.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
