Rumoured LEGO Star Wars: Skeleton Crew set may be a must-have model
The next must-have LEGO Star Wars model might well be based on a signature vessel from the upcoming Skeleton Crew TV series.
It looks like being a huge year for LEGO Star Wars fans, with the 25th anniversaries of both the theme itself and The Phantom Menace, plus multiple rumoured sets said to be on the way in 2024. Although the emphasis of most of those potential builds might be based around Episode I, the original trilogy and The Mandalorian, one possible upcoming set may prove to be a surprising must-have model.
Nestled amongst yesterday’s LEGO Star Wars rumours was the mention of 75374 Onyx Cinder. The build is said to take its inspiration from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, an eight episode live-action Disney+ TV show created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford that may finally be arriving on the streaming platform sometime in 2024.
Previous reports have stated that the set might be coming in at 1,325 pieces priced at $129.99 / €139.99 and launching on June 1, although it’s worth noting there’s been no official confirmation of the LEGO Star Wars model to date.
However, if what has been revealed about the show and the set so far, we might potentially be looking at a model that may rival previous iterations of a certain Corellian freighter. For argument’s sake, if 75374 Onyx Cinder is based on the ship seen in existing production art for the show and that is indeed the name of the craft, then the size and rumoured piece count of the model could well put it the same category as the previously-released (and still available) 75257 Millennium Falcon.
The image shows a massive multi-engine vessel bristling with multiple laser cannons, but it’s impossible to say at this stage if such a ship might follow the simple form factor of previous Star Wars craft such as the X-wing, Y-wing, TIE Fighter and Falcon.
The promotional art and rumoured piece count might also suggest a build that could accommodate a large crew of minifigure characters, potentially based around Jude Law’s Force-user character and what’s reported to be four children lost in a post-ROTJ galaxy far, far away.
With multiple LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon builds having been released over the years, fans are well overdue for another ship that matches the size, scale and complexity of the iconic Corellian freighter. There’s no way of knowing at this stage if that’s just what the rumoured 75374 Onyx Cinder might be able to offer, but we’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed that’s the case.
Of course, all of the above is merely pure speculation on our part for now. There’s currently no word regarding the existence of 75374 Onyx Cinder so far, nor has there been any official announcement of a release date for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
