The secret Nintendo sales plan behind the best LEGO Mario

The LEGO Group has teamed up with Nintendo to create the best LEGO Mario yet but the timing of it is far from coincidental.

We’ve just had the official reveal of LEGO Super Mario 72037 Mario & Standard Kart, offering us the first look at the 1,972-piece build of Mario sitting in his popular Standard Kart from Mario Kart ahead of its release on May 15. It’s available to pre-order now for £149.99 in the UK, $169.99 in the US, and €169.99 in Europe – and we expect a lot of people will be pre-ordering, as it looks pretty great.

While LEGO Super Mario minifigures continue to prove elusive, this is easily the best version of Mario we’ve had in LEGO so far. That’s far from accidental on behalf of Nintendo. After all, very few companies release new collaborations just for the fun of it. 72037 Mario & Standard Kart is coming at the perfect time for the gaming company, and Matthew has some thoughts on it.
