See how LEGO SEGA Genesis Controller GWP compares to the real thing
See how the current LEGO gift-with-purchase, 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller, compares to the real retro gaming controller.
A LEGO fan has compared 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller to the real thing, putting the brick-built controller next to the original controller. The GWP is available with all LEGO purchases of £115 / $130 / €130 (excluding pre-orders), and pays homage to an icon of retro gaming. Known around the world as the Mega Drive and as SEGA Genesis in the US, the console dates back to the late ’80s and into the ’90s.
While it’s been a while since it was in production, one LEGO fan has not just got their hands on the brick-built version, but also dug out the original controller for a side-by-side comparison.
“They nailed the size, body could be a little smoother, but otherwise, fun little build!” they wrote on reddit, accompanied by a picture of the two side by side.

Indeed, the comparison between the two highlights how well the 260-piece GWP captures the look and feel of the set. While there are some minor differences (like the lack of a smooth casing and some of the buttons being more pronounced than the real thing), the shape and size are pretty spot on. It’s the finer details like this that made us name it the best GWP of 2025 in our recent review.
If you needed any further incentive to make a purchase at LEGO.com, you can actually stack two GWPs right now if you’ve been weighing up 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship, earning yourself both 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller and the set-exclusive gift of 5009609 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Compass while stocks last.
