Six of the best LEGO Space designs in BDP Series 8

LEGO Space might be retired as a theme but with dozens of space-themed sets on shelves across other themes, there’s an appetite for more in BDP Series 8.

LEGO Space is one of the most enduring, popular themes the LEGO Group has ever come out with, and the LEGO Group has been bringing the focus back to the retired theme since 2024. The love for brick-built space travel is clearly still there, as is evident from the wealth of fan-made designs in the BrickLink Designer Program Series 8.

We’ve picked out some of our personal favourites, but there are plenty more impressive sets to browse through here. Remember that you can vote for your favourites until May 16, after which the BrickLink team will confirm the designs of the finalists, to be announced on June 14. They will open up for crowdfunding in June of next year.

Galactic City

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Galactic City

In no particular order, we’re kicking off with enowicki10’s Galactic City, an intricately designed build of over 2,500 pieces. Each ‘arm’ of the space station features different parts of a city floating in space, from domes that house organic life to landing strips for microscale space ships.

Galactic Space Ferry ‘Mariner’

Designer: Nodnarb162 Pieces: 3,692 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Galactic Space Ferry Mariner 1024x768

Zooming in with more detail, Nodnarn162’s Galactic Space Ferry ‘Mariner’ adopts a different style to most LEGO Space sets we tend to see, taking on a more sci-fi futuristic look. Made up of 3,692 pieces, we especially love the exposed pipes for a realistically technical build.

Lunar Cargo Train

Designer: Niloc Pieces: 2,399 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Lunar Cargo Train 1024x768

Returning to the classic LEGO Space colour scheme of grey, blue, and trans yellow, Niloc’s Lunar Cargo Train appears to take inspiration from the iconic monorail. The three-part train sites on a raised rail, complete with various brick-built accessories to bring the set to life, as well as its minifigures.

Galactic Sky Pirates

Designer: PK_ Pieces: 2,577 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Galactic Sky Pirates 1024x768

You might argue that PK’s Galactic Sky Pirates is more of a pirate-themed set than a space one but really – it’s both! We love this quirky take on space travel, taking a pirate ship into the skies for a colourful and unique take on galactic travel.

EXPLORERS – EXoPLanet Onsite Researching Robotic Systems

Designer: Jatexa Pieces: 2,359 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Exo Explorers 1024x768

Sapce ships often abound in the world of LEGO Space but Jatexa’s EXPLORERS – EXoPLanet Onsite Researching Robotic Systems imagines a close-up on what happens when space explorers land on a new planet. Each figure has different weapons and accessories, as well as different colours of armour to help them stand out from one another.

Blacktron Ground Operation Squad (Space Mission Team)

Designer: inconspicuous Pieces: 2,224 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Blacktron Ground Operation Squade Space Mission Team 1024x683

Last but not least, inconspicuous’s Blacktron Ground Operation Squad (Space Mission Team) would be the perfect expansion for anyone who loved 10355 Blacktron Renegade. The 2,224 create a number of smaller vehicles and mechs to create a large Blacktron-themed display, with a wealth of play opportunities too.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
