Six new LEGO minifigures we’d love to see in the rumoured Batman Forever set
The LEGO Group is rumoured to be cooking up a Batman Forever set this summer, so here are six minifigures we’d love to see in the mix…
Things are still relatively quiet for LEGO DC at the moment, especially with zero Superman sets on the horizon for James Gunn’s cinematic reboot this summer, but the LEGO Group is said to be plugging the gap with at least a $400 Arkham Asylum build – and, as of this week, a Batmobile hooked to Joel Schumacher’s 1995 movie Batman Forever.
Once believed to be a Batcave, 76304 Batman Forever Batmobile is said to retail for $99.99 for 909 pieces. We’ve already tackled the quandary that piece count presents for such a set – read more about that here – but now it’s time to mull over the minifigure potential. And there’s only one character that should be at the top of all our lists…
Batman

Okay, it feels a little bit ridiculous to even be including Batman on this list, because if there’s one minifigure you can guarantee in a LEGO Batman set it’s the Caped Crusader himself. But he’s absolutely worth discussing because the Dark Knight has fallen victim to stringent cost-cutting of late, forcing the LEGO DC team to reuse a generic cowl regardless of the specific suit or interpretation of the character in question.
A LEGO Batman Forever set needs to correct the mistakes of 76303 Batman Tumbler vs. Two-Face & The Joker by coming up with a new cowl (or even returning to the previous cowl) to allow Val Kilmer’s eyes to shine through. None of this solid-white eye business, thanks very much.
Robin

Robin might not have received top billing in the title until Joel Schumacher’s second stab at the Bat-mythos in 1997, but he still played a key role in Batman Forever. The LEGO Group could compensate for his absence in the wider LEGO DC range in recent years (extending even to 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile, in which he’s sorely missed) by giving us Chris O’Donnell’s take on the character in 76304 Batman Forever Batmobile.
Two-Face

Batman Forever may not be as fondly remembered in the wider Bat-pantheon as more recent movies, but it’s tough to find fault with its villains. Tommy Lee Jones’ gleefully hammy take on Two-Face is the stuff comic book movies were made for – and the character design is spot on too, opening the door for a unique LEGO minifigure. We did just get a brand new Harvey Dent in 76303 Batman Tumbler vs. Two-Face & The Joker, though, so we’re not holding our breath for this one.
Batman, too

Once more for those in the back, because we can’t overstate this enough: it’s time for LEGO Batman minifigures to start looking like their source material again. The LEGO Group managed it with Adam West’s Caped Crusader in 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile, so why should all the black-suited Batmen suffer the same fate?
The Riddler

If there was one person who looked like they were having more fun than Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever, it was Jim Carrey as Edward Nygma (or The Riddler). Arguably the brightest spot of the entire movie, Carrey’s Riddler feels like a shoe-in for a LEGO Batman Forever set because he’d really only require new printing (where Two-Face would probably need a brand new hairpiece). We also haven’t seen the character on shelves in a while, so here’s a great excuse to include him.
Chase Meridian

This is probably getting into ‘wishful thinking’ territory now, but Nicole Kidman’s Chase Meridian played a prominent enough role in Batman Forever that it would be nice to see her included in a LEGO set. If 76304 Batman Forever Batmobile includes more than just the car (as the piece count suggests), one option could be part of Riddler’s lair to recreate the movie’s climactic sequence – offering the perfect excuse for Chase to make the cut, given Batman has to save both her and Robin to foil Riddler’s plan.
Alfred Pennyworth

Alfred usually isn’t the most exciting part of any LEGO Batman set, simply by virtue of his relatively simple character design (at least next to all the other vigilantes and criminals running around Gotham). It’s tough to call him a necessity in a Batman Forever set, but given Michael Gough was one of only two actors to appear in all four Batman films developed by Tim Burton and/or Joel Schumacher, it would be nice to capture that throughline in LEGO form here.
Did we mention Batman?

All together now: an accurate Batman Forever Batman, please!
