Six LEGO sets with some of the biggest brick-built creatures

The LEGO Group’s designers are no strangers to big builds of the natural world’s creatures, whether they be from space, earth or ancient history.

With the reveal of the LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water models, the theme’s continued focus on Pandora’s natural fauna and flora, though this time the theme is shifting to the underwater ecosystem instead. These are just the latest in the LEGO Group’s growing list of brick-built creatures, some of which come in huge sizes.

Due to the piece count of these sets being spread between other models and the animals, this is mostly based on their size or general scale compared to minifigures, in no particular order. As well as that, since the LEGO Group’s portfolio spans stories real and fictional, this list includes fantastical creatures too.

Here are six LEGO sets with massive brick-built creatures both real and fictional:

76391 Hogwarts Icons – Collectors’ Edition is a huge build with much, but not all of the model recreating Hedwig. Still, this LEGO snowy owl is a mammoth recreation with plenty of details to appreciate.

4 – 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon

As part of the latest LEGO NINJAGO wave, 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon is one of the biggest LEGO dragons from NINJAGO ever. It may be the most fantastical creature on this list but there’s no doubt that 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon is one big beast.

3 – 75230 Porg

Theme: Star Wars Price: £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 Pieces: 811 Available: Retired

LEGO Star Wars usually opts for brick-built droids but in 2018, it was decided that a huge LEGO Porg would be a great addition to the theme for The Last Jedi. Almost the entirety of this build is dedicated to the Porg, making it one of the bigger builds on this list.

2 – 75579 Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit

Theme: Avatar Price: £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 761 Available: January 1, 2023

Part of the upcoming LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water Range, it’s not often that LEGO sets dive underwater and it’s even rarer for a big build to depict a huge creature, especially one from Pandora. It’s worth noting that 75579 Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit has huge, specialised elements for the mouth too.

1 – 75936 Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage

Theme: Jurassic World Price: £219.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 Pieces: 3,120 Available: Retired

Though it has now been retired, one of the biggest and most iconic brick-built creatures ever released comes from 75936 Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage as the T. rex is one of two huge creations in the massive Jurassic Park model.
