There’s something wrong with LEGO Star Wars’ latest diorama

The new LEGO Star Wars 40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama isn’t perfect, oddly including a wrongly-coloured lightsaber.

Inspired by or directly based on the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, 40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama takes place after The Rise of Skywalker but likely isn’t canon to the wider Star Wars story. The presence of Rey with her yellow lightsaber makes this point clear.

However, there’s something not quite right with her lightsaber in the set. Comparing the blade to the string lights hanging above the scene appears to reveal that the blade is a shade of green, as opposed to yellow. As seen in The Rise of Skywalker, in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, this blade should definitely be yellow.

At the time of writing, a yellow transparent LEGO bar has not been produced since 2015’s 76025 Green Lantern vs. Sinestro and the colour of the brick is likely no longer in production.

Rather than revisiting the trans-yellow bar, the LEGO Group’s solution for now seems to be a light green blade for Rey’s lightsaber instead. Right now, there’s only one LEGO set that depicts Rey after The Rise of Skywalker, when she has the yellow lightsaber. However, with a movie in the New Jedi Order era featuring Rey coming in the future, there may be hope yet for the return of the trans-yellow bar.

It’s possible that the images on LEGO.com are subject to a trick of the light, but given that we can see a trans-yellow stud in the string lights to compare it to, this seems unlikely.

40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama launches on October 1 for £25.99 / $29.99 / €29.99
