Star Wars: Andor Season 2 confirmed

Actor Stellan Skarsgård has confirmed that a second season of Star Wars: Andor is already in the works, and will start filming this autumn.

The first season of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spin-off is yet to air on Disney+, but Skarsgård – whose specific role in the show has also yet to be confirmed – told Swedish publication Dagens Nyheter that production on a second season will commence later this year.

It sounds like Disney is hoping to air both seasons of the prequel series with only a minimal gap between them, compared to the year-long wait between the first two seasons of The Mandalorian. “I do not know when they will start broadcasting it,” the actor said, in quotes translated by The Direct. “It will take some time, so that it does not take too long between Season 1 and Season 2.”

The first season of Andor, which focuses on Diego Luna’s Rogue One character Cassian Andor five years before the events of Gareth Edwards’ spin-off movie, is currently expected to arrive on Disney+ in mid-to-late 2022. Other returning characters include Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O’Reilly, and Saw Gerrera, portrayed once again by Forest Whitaker.

There’s no word (or even rumours) yet on whether we’ll see LEGO Star Wars sets based on Andor, but we’ve had plenty of products for The Mandalorian, while the first sets based on The Book of Boba Fett are said to be on the way later this year. That establishes a strong precedent for more sets based on Star Wars Disney+ shows, so odds are we’ll see something from Andor eventually.

In the meantime, you can already pick up a couple of Cassian Andor minifigures from 2016’s 75155 Rebel U-wing Fighter and 2017’s 75171 Battle on Scarif.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
