The first trailer for the new Star Wars animated series, Resistance, has been released online.
Lucasfilm has revealed a first look at Star Wars Resistance with a new trailer, ahead of the series’ launch this October on Disney TV channels.
Star Wars Resistance is a new animated TV series coming from Lucasfilm, that will launch on Disney Channel and video on demand services on October 7. It is the first time the company has used 2D animation since the Clone Wars micro series ended in 2005, with Droids and Ewoks having been the first forays into traditional animation back in the 1980s. Last year an experimental series, Forces of Destiny, was released online. The new series is set in the time in between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
In the new glimpse at the show, Poe Dameron shows up, voiced by movie actors Oscar Issac. Gwendoline Christie will also reprise her role as Captain Phasma, with BB-8 presumably voicing himself. Kazuda Xiono will be the main character in Star Wars Resistance, joined by other typically strange Star Wars named characters including Tam Ryvora, Neeku Vozo, Torra Doza and Hype Fazon.
Based on this first footage, it looks like the series will follow a more traditional animated television format rather than the more epic, movie style stories of The Clone Wars and Rebels. LEGO sets based on the series are expected to launch in January 2019.
