This is the LEGO May the 4th gift-with-purchase you are looking for

40591 Death Star II is a smart LEGO Star Wars gift-with-purchase this May the 4th that continues an encouraging trend for the LEGO Group.

Offering up a unique mini-display model of Return of the Jedi’s rebuilt and fully operational battle station, 40591 Death Star II is an intricately-designed, cleverly-realised gift-with-purchase available from May 1 to 7 this May the 4th shopping period at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores, free with LEGO Star Wars purchases of £130 / $150 / €150 or more.

As a concept it marries up both the core promotional purpose of a mini-LEGO build experience with the more considered adult-orientated design ethos from the recent 18+ LEGO sets, creating a display piece that is both fun to build and pretty satisfying to have sitting on display, be that on your shelf next to other LEGO Star Wars sets, or on your desk to play with while sat on a work Zoom call (sorry everyone, I am paying attention…).

It’s a concept embraced very skilfully by the LEGO Star Wars team here, but not one that actually originates from this theme. Indeed, it’s more a continuation of a wider trend in gifts-with-purchase from the LEGO Group that finally recognises that for the money required to qualify for one of these ‘freebies’ it makes sense to offer up an item that a) offers genuine good value and b) appeals to that older market with the disposable income to spend on such novelty items.

Considering the likes of recent GWPs such as 40586 Moving Truck, 40580 Blacktron Cruiser and 40567 Forest Hideout, 40591 Death Star II this May the 4th represents the latest GWP that requires a high spend threshold, but offers a high-end LEGO experience as a result.

Long may that ethos from the LEGO Group around promotional items continue – check back for our full review of 40591 Death Star II later (spoilers: we like it).

40591 Death Star II is available from May 1 to 7 during the LEGO Group’s May the 4th event, from LEGO Stores and at LEGO.com, awarded with purchases of £130 / $150 / €150 or more, while stocks last.

In addition during this same period, LEGO Star Wars spends of £35 / $40 / €40 or more will land 30654 X-wing Starfighter, while LEGO Star Wars spends of £80 / $85 / €85 or more will also land 5007840 Return of the Jedi Collectible, all while stocks last.
