The next Disney movie embarks on a wild alien adventure

Strange World – the latest Disney animation – has received a teaser trailer, with new LEGO sets hopefully accompanying it.

Scheduled for release this November, Strange World is a retrofuturistic animated journey. Takings its cues from early 20th-century aesthetics, the trailer shows a diverse family of explorers (known as the Clades) making their way through a bizarre alien world. Alan Tudyk (a mainstay of contemporary Disney productions) and Jake Gyllenhaal will provide voice work for some of the characters.

The trailer offers a typically alluring Disney world for us to feast our eyes on, although despite its lush environments it’s unclear if LEGO sets will follow. While the LEGO Disney range has drawn inspiration from recent releases (such as Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon) they depended upon female protagonists to connect it to their broader princess aesthetic. Strange World appears to lack such protagonists, suggesting it won’t fit into the main LEGO Disney product range.

Of course, all is not lost. The upcoming Lightyear movie has earned its own trio of LEGO tie-ins in the classic LEGO licensed style. Elsewhere, Chip and Dale have received Brickheadz in their Rescue Rangers outfits – a subtle tie-in to their Disney+ original movie.

As such, if you’re hoping to express your Strange World love with a LEGO purchase, you may be pleasantly surprised in the months to come. However, until the LEGO Group reveals anything, you might wish to keep your expectations in check.
