The official LEGO Star Wars BD-1 compared to fan designs

The first LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order set, 75335 BD-1, is now available but this droid has received multiple unofficial builds before.

As of August 1, 2022, 75335 BD-1 is available to order on the official online store, bringing a brick-built version of the droid to the masses. However, before the LEGO Star Wars design team recreated the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order character the online LEGO community designed unofficial models for BD-1

Now that the LEGO Star Wars set is out, we can compare these models to the official brick-built version of BD-1. On Rebrickable, Uncharted_Fabrications uses 2,827 pieces to depict the droid, significantly more than 75335 BD-1’s 1,062 elements.

The reason for this larger size is due to this BD-1 model being life-sized but it still features posable legs, a head and details matching the appearance in-game.

Much closer to the piece count of 75335 BD-1 is scoutthetrooper’s build at 1,061 pieces, just one less than the official model. Despite this, the builds use a variety of different techniques, setting each one apart from the other. A stand is included with the fan-made version as well as a UCS plaque with space for a minifigure.

Since the BD-1 minifigure wasn’t around when scoutthetrooper’s build was created three years ago, it’s notable that with the inclusion of it, the piece count perfectly matches 75335 BD-1 at 1,062 bricks.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
