The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s release date has changed

The release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has moved, bringing the animated Nintendo movie to cinemas earlier than expected.

The social media accounts for the The Super Mario Bros. Movie have confirmed that the film has moved its April 7 release date for the US and more than 60 other countries to April 5 instead, offering the movie two days earlier.

The post confirms that the movie is still launching on April 28 in Japan and some markets will have to wait until May to watch it. The exact list of affected countries has not been confirmed though any regions with a release date of April 7 for The Super Mario Bros. Movie are likely affected, including the UK.

Despite the LEGO Super Mario theme, no sets have been confirmed for the film. However, given how closely the feature sticks to the source material (in appearance), several existing sets are compatible with the movie including 71408 Peach’s Castle and 71411 The Mighty Bowser.

For Nintendo and Mario enthusiasts, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will likely be worth a watch beyond its potential to inspire LEGO sets in the future.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
