Toys R Us UK reduces price of remaining LEGO stock by 25%

The UK arm of Toys R Us, that is closing its remaining stores over the coming weeks, has reduced the price of all LEGO sets by 25%.

As Toys R Us UK continues to offer a maximum discount across its stores of 50%, LEGO sets have had the price discount increased from 15% to 25%. The bankrupt retailer is selling all of its inventory as part of administration proceedings, as creditors and lenders seek to regain some of the money that will otherwise disappear when the chain closes for good.

Fans visiting Toys R Us may not find many LEGO products left, as even at a meagre 10% discount many stores saw hundreds of shoppers queuing to purchase the barely discounted toys.

Toys R Us has proven beyond saving despite efforts being made over the past six months to keep the chain going. A rescue package confirmed last October involved closing a quarter of the retailer’s UK stores, but the company did not trade well enough over Christmas to meet VAT obligations. Over 3,000 jobs will be lost when the retailer closes.

In more positive toy retail news, Hamleys recently opened a refreshed LEGO section, with all new authentic decorations and interactive experiences.
