Two LEGO thieves prosecuted after stealing hundreds of pounds worth of sets
Two LEGO thieves in Chester have been prosecuted for stealing over £300 worth of LEGO sets.
As reported by the Chester Standard, 21-year-old Dylan Sweeney and 20-year-old Bernerd Sweeney both pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 7 to shoplifting. The crime took place on January 17 and the pair were prosecuted by Michael O’Kane.
The two defendants, who were cousins, were seen at the B&M store in Old Seals Way, Chester and caught on CCTV by a staff member. They charged past a security guard on their exit and attempted to escape a Toyota Corolla. However, as the details of the car were then passed on to police, they were later apprehended with the boxes of LEGO sets in the back of the car, worth £359.98. The items were recovered and returned to the store.
Bernerd Sweeney had no previous convictions while Dylan Sweeney had one previous conviction for drink-driving. According to their lawyer, Richard Sibeon, the crime was ‘not sophisticated’ and was motivated by the ‘relatively immature’ cousins’ need to repay a debt. The court magistrates fined the duo £120 each and told them to each pay £60 court costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
