Two Star Wars films reportedly shelved as update for another arrives

The cinematic future of Star Wars is reportedly being shaken up by two films no longer being in active development.

The Mandalorian Season 3 has started streaming and the future of live-action Star Wars series is rife with content including Ahsoka, The Acolyte and a second season of Andor. However, the franchise’s immediate future in the film industry may not be as fruitful.

Variety reports that Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron is no longer in active development, following the film being pulled from the release schedule. It’s also reported that the next scheduled Star Wars film is coming in December 2025.

However, Rogue Squadron isn’t the only Star Wars movie that has previously been confirmed with Kevin Feige also previously stated to be helming one. It’s also reported that this film has been pulled from active development too.

Out of the confirmed films, that just leaves the indefinitely postponed Rian Johnson’s trilogy and Taika Waititi’s film. For the latter, the report states that the director is looking to act in the film as well.

Star Wars Celebration 2023 may shed some light on these reports as well as the future of Star Wars movies when it takes place from April 7 to 10, 2023.
