An upcoming LEGO Technic 2023 set isn’t entirely new

One of four upcoming LEGO Technic 2023 sets presents a familiar concept, but with a new aspect for the LEGO Group since the initial build. 

In 2019, 75891 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Race Car was released as a partnership between the LEGO Group and Chevrolet under the Speed Champions line. On March 1, 2023, 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will launch as part of LEGO Technic’s latest range.

After four years, the vehicle first seen in LEGO Speed Champions will be recreated as a Technic model. However, there’s one key difference between these versions, not including the ‘Next Gen’ changes. 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the first sign of an official partnership between the LEGO Group and NASCAR as well as Chevrolet. 

While 75891 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Race Car’s box art suggested that the vehicle was based on the car seen at NASCAR races, there was no official sign of the brand on the box. However, that changes in 2023 with 42153 NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The newer Chevrolet model is also based on the ‘Next Gen’ version of the ZL1, though appearance changes between it and the old version are minimal. These include a redesigned chassis with new front and rear bumpers. In bricks, these changes aren’t too visible, drawing another comparison between the LEGO Speed Champions and Technic sets.
