WATCH: What is happening to LEGO’s modular buildings?

A big shake-up is on the way for the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection, amid the imminent retirement of the majority of the current range.

Three of the five currently-available LEGO modular buildings are scheduled to retire by the end of 2023, including the longstanding 10255 Assembly Square (which has been available since 2017), 10270 Bookshop and 10278 Police Station. That leaves just 10297 Boutique Hotel and this year’s 10312 Jazz Club on LEGO Store shelves at the beginning of 2024, alongside whatever might be next for the LEGO Icons subtheme.

It’s the most dramatic shake-up for the series we’ve seen in recent memory, as the LEGO Group has quietly abandoned its one-in, one-out policy employed throughout the late 2010s, in favour of keeping multiple sets on shelves for a longer period of time. Those are now disappearing in one fell swoop, paving the way for potential changes to the LEGO modular building makeup in 2024.

10255 Assembly Square, 10270 Bookshop, 10278 Police Station, 10297 Boutique Hotel and 10312 Jazz Club are all available now, but the first three could realistically sell out any time between now and December 31. And once they're gone, don't expect them to come back...
