What can we learn from the LEGO VIDIYO summer sets?

An ex-LEGO Designer is exploring and dissecting the new LEGO VIDIYO summer sets to see what building lessons fans can get out of them, including how to make a simple Cadillac.

LEGO designer turned YouTuber Tiago Catarino has turned his attention to the most recent range of LEGO VIDIYO, which focused less on the single-minifigure BeatBoxes and introduced the first proper brick-built models to the theme. With such sets comes bricks and some hidden building techniques and this helpful VIDIYO video is on hand to guide you through them.

Some of the suggested tips consist of taking away the musical and colourful elements of the models to leave only the base builds. These result in a small but spacious pirate ship and a Cadillac to customise again to your heart’s content. They come courtesy of 43114 Punk Pirate Ship and 43112 Robo HipHop Car, which we’ve reviewed here and here accordingly.

Some of the more subtle techniques that can be found within the sets include two types of LEGO stairs depending on the bricks to have available to you, but one does provide significant storage space underneath, perhaps for a certain boy wizard?

For those with less parts going spare, the miniature spotlights could add a dazzling shine to any building display, maybe to help spot the masked menace Spider-Man in 76178 Daily Bugle.

The video helps to highlight some of the smaller techniques and tips that the colourful creations can teach builders, no matter the depth of their LEGO experience. We’ll have to see if there any more to uncover in the upcoming VIDIYO set – 43108 Bandmates Series 2.
