What could LEGO Animal Crossing’s sets be?

LEGO Animal Crossing is officially on the way and the designers could dive deep into the LEGO Group’s history for its sets.

As confirmed by a new trailer, LEGO Animal Crossing is the next theme to come from Nintendo and the LEGO Group’s partnership with minifigures and there’s a brief glimpse at the builds to expect from the theme via a forest in the background.

Rumours from earlier this year suggested that a suite of Animal Crossing models could be coming and the since-listed sets were originally for a mystery theme. These have not been officially confirmed and should be taken with caution. A couple of BrickHeadz were reported too and are similarly unconfirmed.

Assuming that sets are coming, and it would be hard to have minifigures without models for them to be included in, there’s a lot of ground the LEGO Animal Crossing could cover. LEGO Ideas users have pitched their takes on brick-built Animal Crossing in the past and Micro Model Maker‘s project, with a proposed minifigure, may give us an idea of what to expect.

Tom Nook’s costume in the trailer is from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the latest game in the series, making it the most likely contender for the theme’s source material. Thankfully, the new game keeps most of the franchise’s mainstay facilities including the museum, Nook’s Cranny and several houses belonging to villagers and the player.

The island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also entirely customisable, which would best fit the nature of LEGO too. Thankfully, the LEGO Group has more than enough experience with a world full of peaceful, anthropomorphic animals living in colourful buildings.

LEGO Fabuland has long since retired but the similarities between it and Animal Crossing are numerous. Notably, Fabuland started in 1979 and Animal Crossing in 2001. Next year will be the 45th anniversary of LEGO Fabuland and while the newer theme has no confirmed release date at this time – it would be an ideal time for LEGO Animal Crossing.

Looking at Fabuland, several of the models could be great foundations for LEGO Animal Crossing models, though we shall have to wait and see what the new theme has in store.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
