When will LEGO NINJAGO 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens retire?

As rumours swirl of a new LEGO NINJAGO City expansion coming in 2023, here’s when 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens is currently slated to retire.

The only other LEGO NINJAGO City modular building currently on shelves, 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens retails for £299.99 / $349.99 / €349.99. It’s still the easiest and cheapest of the three existing sets to acquire, though, because both 70620 NINJAGO City and 70657 NINJAGO City Docks are long since retired – and now command huge sums on the aftermarket.

Now that the series is reportedly set to continue on what looks to be a biennial basis with 71799 NINJAGO City Markets, there’s a good chance that 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens will similarly skyrocket in value post-retirement (in the same way as most of the LEGO Icons modular buildings). So, is it time to panic-buy multiple copies before it leaves shelves for good? Not quite.

According to Brick Fanatics’ sources, 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens is currently set to retire by December 31, 2024. That means you’ve got at least 18 months, if not almost two years, to pick up the 5,685-piece model. (Retirement dates aren’t hard and fast: it could sell out at any point in the weeks or months leading up to the end of December, depending on when it leaves production.)

If you’re still saving up for the seminal 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens – and make no mistake, it isn’t a cheap set, even while the LEGO Group continues to raise the bar for its most expensive products – you can rest easy for a little while longer yet. Even if the rumoured 71799 NINJAGO City Markets emerges in the summer, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on the series so far.

Except for the retired sets. If this series does become a regular thing, chances are those are only going to get even more expensive on the aftermarket, so best plump for those soon if you really want them. At the time of writing, new copies of 70620 NINJAGO City start at roughly £521 on BrickLink, while 70657 NINJAGO City Docks starts at around £418.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
