Why Jane Austen deserves the LEGO treatment
Off the back of the reveal of LEGO 40766 Tribute to Jane Austen’s Books, let’s take a closer look at the real-life author who inspired it.
Jane Austen is set to appear in a future gift-with-purchase in LEGO 40766 Tribute to Jane Austen’s Books, the details of which have not yet been confirmed. The set is made up of 361 pieces and features a recreation of Jane Austen’s home, complete with bookshelf, painting, fireplace, piano and a window with a curtain – as well as a minifigure of the author herself.
That minifigure might be both the easiest and the trickiest minifigure that the LEGO Group has ever designed: easy, because there’s no clear idea of what Austen looked like while she was alive between the years 1775 and 1817 – and tricky, because there’s no clear idea of what she looked like. Having a blank canvas gives you free rein, but also little to use as a jumping off point.
Nonetheless, 40766 Tribute to Jane Austen’s Books looks great at a first glance and is an excellent excuse to learn more about the esteemed author.
