The X-Files cast want to believe in LEGO Ideas challenge submission
10 years after it was pitched, a LEGO Ideas The X-Files set has a chance of becoming a reality, and the cast has already supported it.
With enough votes, Brent Waller’s The X-Files build may be picked for an official LEGO Ideas set in the first ’90s challenge on the platform, but it’s up against four other promising projects. The fact that it has been picked for the crowd vote (where the most popular submission will be a future set) means that the LEGO Group now believes The X-Files to be a fit in the wider portfolio after it was rejected for a set nearly a decade ago.

Over on X, Brent has celebrated their revised take on the show’s eligibility for the challenge with a reminder of a momentous moment for them and the original project that happened nearly 10 years ago today.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have thrown their support behind the original take on this model, posing with a pair of minifigures sent to them by the fan designer. You’d expect them to be just as happy with the revised version and its minifigures that now stand a chance at becoming an official set.
“I made two sets of figures as a test as I was considering making custom minifigs,” shared Brent to The Brothers Brick in 2017. “I made Mulder’s office to go with it, which ended up online on my Flickr page after the LEGO Ideas project was rejected. Luckily enough, someone from her staff contacted me saying she (Gillian) loved them!
“So, I sent off my spares, hoping I could get Gillian to pose with her minifigure. Her staff took it even further and got David Duchovny too. They both dressed up in their X-Files attire, and the rest is what you see going down in history!”
Should this project be popular in the current fan vote, which remains open until February 21, it would be amazing to see the cast recreate this photo with updated minifigures as part of a marketing campaign. In the meantime, David and Gillian are clearly on board for an official LEGO The X-Files set, unless opinions have somehow changed in the past decade.
Brent Waller’s build is up against The Fifth Element, Edward Scissorhands, Jumanji and Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the challenge and only one can come out on top.
