30,000 people voted for LEGO Star Wars 75309 Republic Gunship to become reality

The LEGO Group has revealed that an overwhelming 30,000 people voted for 75309 Republic Gunship in last year’s Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series poll.

That represents a stunning 58% of all 53,000 votes cast in the three-way poll, which also included a potential UCS TIE Bomber and UCS Nebulon-B Frigate. Support for both of those original trilogy vehicles was dwarfed by the chorus of fans yearning for the first prequel trilogy UCS set since 2010, when 10215 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter landed on shelves.

More than a decade later, the LEGO Group is about to make history with 75309 Republic Gunship, which is actually the first UCS set to be determined by fans (though it may not be the last). The 3,292-piece model will launch on August 1 for £329.99 / $349.99 / €349.99, and in doing so will also break another record for the Star Wars theme.

LEGO Star Wars possible UCS sets

The numbers presented in the set’s instruction manual mean that the TIE Bomber and Nebulon-B Frigate had roughly 23,000 votes between them. While a specific breakdown hasn’t been shared, an even split would mean that the Gunship had three times as many votes as either of the other possibilities, which is pretty definitive.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
