A new LEGO NINJAGO movie would likely be revolutionary
The chance of a second LEGO NINJAGO movie likely disconnected from all other projects in the franchise has revolutionary potential – again.
The LEGO NINJAGO Movie from 2017 may not have made waves at the box office, but it did make some huge changes in the world of NINJAGO – changes that could surface again in other forms with another NINJAGO movie. That’s exactly what’s on the table thanks to a new script order for a live-action film written by the Hageman brothers.
While we don’t know what’s in the future, we can look to the past for an idea of what to expect, including the changes to NINJAGO brought about by the first film. The community’s reaction to the news has been mixed and the project only has a script in the works at the time of writing, but assuming that a live-action LEGO NINJAGO movie is in our future for a moment, it would likely be revolutionary for the theme – again.
A new set collection
The LEGO NINJAGO Movie theme based on the film provided us with some of the most exciting and unique sets in NINJAGO to date, from robotic dragons to one-wheel mechs. None have been quite as impactful as 70620 NINJAGO City and 70657 NINJAGO City Docks though.
These massive multi-level models launched a theme-spanning range of NINJAGO city sets to make up an impressive homage to the theme, packing in references and minifigures for longtime NINJAGO enthusiasts to collect. For another NINJAGO movie, a similarly revolutionary collection could debut and the possibilities are endless. NINJAGO dioramas similar to that of LEGO Star Wars would be an interesting pick.
Another Collectible Minifigure series
LEGO NINJAGO’s only Collectible Minifigure Series to date is based on The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, covering characters and appearances inspired by the film only. Every LEGO movie so far has had a tie-in minifigure series and it seems plausible – even for a live-action project – that another NINJAGO film would receive the same treatment.
Another minifigure series based on NINJAGO would be a chance to cover characters from the animated series, even based on their live-action counterparts. Not including such potential, even depicting live-action characters that are themselves inspired by minifigures would be revolutionary for the theme, though this would almost certainly be the case for any sets too.
A fundamental change
The biggest change that came with The LEGO NINJAGO Movie was a redesign for the six main NINJAGO characters, debuting new hairstyles and face designs that have stuck with the characters ever since.
This kind of fundamental change is something that went hand-in-hand with the movie and another film would be the chance for another huge change, shifting the core of NINJAGO going forward.
